Plane Carrying a Brazilian Soccer Team Crashes in Colombia, Killing 76 people

A chartered aircraft with 81 on board, including a Brazilian first division football team (22-man squad) heading to Colombia for a regional tournament final, has crashed on its way to Medellin’s international airport.

The aviation authorities said there were reports of at least six survivors and at least 21 journalists were on the plane.

The hero pilot is reported to have opened a fuel door to release fuel and prevent a huge explosion in the seconds after the crash.


United for the last time, this is the Brazilian football team posing together in front of a passenger jet before their doomed flight crashed, killing 76 on board.
