France is to bestow citizenship to a Mali immigrant, Mamoudou Gassama, who saved a young boys life on Saturday.
On Sunday, a video went viral on social media showing Mamoudou Gassama, 22, risking his life on Sunday as he climbed up the balconies to rescue a four-year-old in France. Mamoudou scaled the balconies amidst the cheers of the previously horrified spectators – which saw his being labeled as the french Spider-man.
President Emmanuel Macron met Mamoudou on Monday to appreciate his efforts. Macron also presented him with a medal for his bravery.
The incident unfolded on Saturday evening on a street in the north of Paris.
Gassama said he had been walking past when he saw a crowd gathered in front of the building.
“I just didn’t have time to think, I ran across the road to go and save him.
“I just climbed up and thank God, God helped me. The more I climbed the more I had the courage to climb up higher, that’s it,” he added.
He said that the boy was crying when he hauled him to safety and had also suffered an injured foot.
His heroic gesture was an example for all citizens and that the City of Paris will obviously be keen to support him in his efforts to settle in France,” Paris mayor Hidalgo said.

While the boys father has been arrested for parental negligence, Gassama is being offered a spell of community service work at the Paris emergency services.
WATCH HIS HEROIC EFFORT.
