Cricket, a sport which plays an essential part in people’s life across both nations i.e Pakistan and India. The passion and drive within the game reaches another level when these two take on each other. With such a fixture, history is made, records are set, hearts are broken and legends are made. Pakistan will play their first match of the ICC champions trophy 2017 against India at Edgbaston.
The fixture, over the years have not been a free flowing one despite being one of the biggest spectacles in the game of Cricket. In the past, we have seen many intriguing and exciting encounters between the rivals. Unfortunately, this has not been happening on regular basis and the culprit behind such a cruel move has been BCCI themselves, who have more or less always used political reasons to deny Pakistan a series against India other than in a major ICC event.
The greatest fast bowling duo in Cricket’s history i.e Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis didn’t play a single match against India for 10 years i.e from the late 80’s until the late 90’s. These were the years the two W’s were in their prime in international cricket and India again were in no mode to play the best fast bowlers in the game.
A Test match after 10 years was finally played on the Indian soil in 1999 resulting in Pakistan’s victory. Wasim and Waqar were still good enough in their 30’s for the Indian batsmen.
A younger and fiercer personality in Shoaib Akthar was the icing on the cake for Pakistan’s premium bowling attack.
ICC Champions Trophy 2017
The fixture is to bounce back coming Sunday as they take on each other in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 on 4th June, 2017.
A build up show for the fixture was happening in India when Aamir Sohail and Harbajan Singh ripped apart India’s ideology when it comes to play cricket against Pakistan.
The ex left- handed opener of Pakistan said, that
” If India says that they do not want to play against Pakistan on any other day then they should also turn it down on a big stage, but playing in ICC tournaments for personal interests and denying a friendly series on a normal occasion is pure hypocrisy”.
The two Indian Legends, Mohammed Azarudin and the ‘Turbonator’ Harbhajan Singh were present alongside to agree on what Aamir had to say.
Bhajii further added,
“The game has never ignited a fight or rivalry of such intensity that you stop playing cricket with a certain team. It is in fact your other issues across the borders that stops the game to witness a high class fixture”
Pakistan are heading into the game with their recently appointed Captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, who as a cricketer would surely like to create history as Pakistan will look forward to beat India in a major ICC tournament for the first time ever. Generally Pakistan has won more than India, playing against each other.
India has a formidable and an inform line up with their master class batsmen and Captain, Virat Kholi leading them. Virat has won big trophies in his career so far, but this time it would be a different challenge for him.
India, the current holders beat England in 2013 under the leadership of Ms Dhoni.
Daily Punch wishes Sarfaraz Ahmed and Pakistan cricket team a victorious encounter this time around.
