Meesha Shafi accuses Ali Zafar of sexual harassment, encourages women to break ‘culture of silence’

Pakistani singer and actress Meesha Shafi has alleged Ali Zafar has sexually harassed her on more than one occasion.

She said that the singer  harassed her on multiple occasions  .

“I have been subjected, on more than one occasion, to sexual harassment of physical nature at the hands of a colleague from my industry: Ali Zafar.

These incidences did not happen when i was young, or just entering the industry. This happened to me despite the fact that i am an empowered, accomplished woman who is known for speaking her mind. This happened to me as a mother of two children.”

The #Metoo campaign began on Twitter after Hollywood’s Harvey Weinstein was accused of sexual harassment. The campaign made its way in Pakistan as well when many people from  the industry shared incidences of sexual harassment on Twitter. The latest development to the campaign is Shafi’s tweet alleging rockstar Ali Zafar of sexual harassment.

This is indeed a shocking revelation but kudos to Meesha Shafi for coming out and shedding light on something that has been frowned upon in the world.
