Now, let us update you on the Nokia 3310 comeback:
The Mobile World Congress will be held in Barcelona this week. It will allow HMD global, a company based in Finland, to introduce the improvised version of the famous Nokia 3310. A company formed just back in 2016 might just turn the market on its head with this little gem. Released initially in the year 2000, Nokia 3310 had reached a toll of up to 126 million buyers. An updated version this time around might just help it to retain its crown of being one of the world’s best sellers in the mobile industry.
Revival of the Nokia 3310
HMD global, branded simply as HMD, develops smartphones and tablets. It has been given the rights to sell all types of ‘Nokia’ branded phones and tablets. Given the exclusive rights to market the NOKIA brand, HMD has written a new chapter for a model that has been out-of-date for over a decade now.
In an interview with Mirror Online of UK, the Chief Product Officer at HMD Global Juho Sarvikas said, “For the Nokia 3310, we just couldn’t resist!”
He further commented, “We wanted to reward loyal Nokia phone fans and make a statement that rich heritage, innovation and modern design can go hand-in-hand.”
The phone was revealed during a press conference at the MWC 2017 on Sunday, February 26. It is unknown as to when HMD would start selling the device. However, it is expected to be available in the second quarter of 2017.
An average global retail price of €49 (£41) is confirmed. It is remarkably less than the original price of £129.
HMD has struck a deal with ‘Carphone Warehouse’. It has started the pre-registrations on their websites to line up customers for the new icon.
Design and Display
The design has not matched the class and integrity of today’s phone as they have stuck to the basic concept of alphanumeric keys with no existence of the touch screen feature. Nevertheless the phone is said to be lighter and slimmer with a change in the size of the buttons as well.
Four colors have been used with two different methods of finishing. Red and Yellow are with a glossy finish. Dark Blue and Grey will be having a matte finish.
The display has been improved with a larger 2.4 inch screen with a color display beating the old idea of a small monochrome graphic display. HMD has tried to keep the device simple in order to maintain its prolonged battery life.
Changes in the Features
The great Nokia 3310 was renowned for its battery life among the buyers and HMD has taken that to a whole new level. From having a removable battery of 900 mAh with a talk time of 4-5 hours, the new version has been installed with a 1200 mAh removable battery, holding up to 22 hours of talk-time and a month long stand-by!
The phone is given the modern touch with a 2-Megapixel camera in it. A micro SD card can extend the memory capacity up to 32 GB with an initial 16 MB present internally. 2G connectivity could also be accessible.
Last but not the least, the iconic games in it will surely take you back in the history as an attempt to set a new record in Snake II would be possible again. Did you see this coming? I bet, ‘No’!
The Other Releases
Alongside with this special edition, HMD has also designed a couple of handsets matching the modern smartphones which includes Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3. These come with the latest version of Android –Nougat 7.0
Aluminum has been a key component in the making of all four handsets. Each device is shaped from an individual block of metal.
Let’s see how these new versions of the popular old Nokia phones fare in the technology market after their release.
