Saint Lucia Prime Minister, Phillip J Pierre, in under the period of 18 months from the time since assuming office, along with the support of his Cabinet and from the side of the former employees of Majestic Industries Limited, has brought an end to their 18 year wait to receive terminal benefits.
Overall 196 hardworking people of Saint Lucia were deprived of their wages as well as terminal benefits when Majestic Industries Limited abruptly finished its operations in Saint Lucia back in 2004. The sudden closing of Majestic Industries Limited placed several of the former employees on the breadline.
Notably, PM Pierre’s considerate plan to proceed with a resolution on the longstanding case in the interest of the ex-employees of the Majestic Industries Limited is consistent along with as well as presents his Administration’s commitment to the foundational principle of Putting People First.
Moreover, PM Pierre has expressed pleasure to announce the beginning of payments to the former employees of Majestic Industries Limited has started after a successful talks with the National Workers Union (NWU) as well as the Ministry of Labour.
The Cabinet, on November 14, 2022, has agreed to promote a one-time, lump sum payment to the former workers. The disbursement started on December 23, 2022. However, each of the former employee will receive an EC $10,000 payment from the Saint Lucian government.
The overall value of the wages package for the former employees of Majestic Industries stands at EC $1.96 million.
