Lahore: Pakistan skipper Babar Azam faces heavy backlash for poor captaincy decisions at the most crucial moments during the first two matches against arch-rival India and Zimbabwe, the skipper Babar Azam faces heavy backlash for poor captaincy decisions at the most crucial moments during the matches against the arch-rival India as well as Zimbabwe. Pakistan, now stands at fifth position in the points tally of Group 2, with 2 losses in 2 matches.
The former Pakistan captain, Intikhab Alam, has named Shan Masood to be a better option than Azam to lead the Pakistan National Cricket Team. “I had already said when Pakistan Cricket Board made Babar captain of the three formats that it was not the right decision. He lacks that leadership quality”, stated Intikhab as he commented over the Pakistan’s miserable performance in the ongoing T20 World Cup.
Further, the route to the semi-finals for Pakistan has become far more difficult following the two defeats and points yet to be gained. Winning the next three group games remains the only hope for the green-caps now.
“It is dangerous for the team to be excessively dependent upon the performance of openers Babar & Rizwan; if they’d fail to perform in a game, the team comes under pressure,” said Intikhab.
If you have cricketing sense and the scoreboard is in front of you, then you should know how to go ahead; Babar is lacking in monitoring the match situation and taking timely decisions accordingly, commented the 80-year-old World cup winning coach and manager Intikhab Alam.
He also slammed the skipper for handing over the ball to spinner Mohammad Nawaz during the last over in the high pressure match against India and put front his opinion vouching Shan Masood to lead the team, saying “Shan, I personally feel, has the genes of captaincy at least for ODIs and T20 Internationals.”
Intikhab also questioned the selection of Fakhar Zaman and Shaheen Shah Afridi into the team despite of being unfit. Shaheen failed to complete his second run in match against Zimbabwe when the team required just one run to win the match and the match had turned out in Zimbabwe’s favour.
