The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, on Tuesday has extended condolences on the demise of the former Prime Minister of Barbados, Lloyd Erskine Sandiford. PM Skerrit took it to his official social media handle to express the grief over the loss of former PM Lloyd Erskine Sandiford.
While noting to the above mentioned, PM Skerrit added that, “I was saddened this morning by the news of the passing of former Barbados Prime Minister, Lloyd Erskine Sandiford.”
PM Skerrit, while recognizing the persona of Lloyd Erskine Sandiford, “He was a stellar statesman and devout regionalist.”
It is to be noted that, PM Skerrit added that, “I met Lloyd on several occasions and was comforted by his expressed and demonstrated confidence in the ability of young people. He encouraged me as a young Caribbean leader.”
He further mentioned that, he believes the lives and the work along with the contributions of that era of Caribbean leaders need to be adequately recorded and made available as source of knowledge and inspiration to the modern day leadership.
Considerably, former PM Lloyd later served as the Ambassador of Barbados to China and again in that posting, he has adopted a regional approach and viewpoint on the issues.
PM Skerrit further spoke on the behalf of the Government and the people of Dominica, adding that, “I speak on behalf of the Government and people of Dominica when I say we share the sense of loss of the people of Barbados and we stand ready to participate at the highest level in the official celebration of his life and contribution to the development of Barbados and the wider Caribbean.”
At the same time, PM Skerrit, while extending grief over the loss of former PM Lloyd Erskine Sandiford, added that, “May he rest in eternal peace and may light perpetual shine on him.”
