Saint Lucia: Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Lucia – Ernest Hillaire visited the Bamboo Expert Training Programme. The Taiwanese Embassy organised the programme in association with the Cultural Development Foundation (CDF).
The object of the training programme was to enhance the skills of the creatives. It aims to train in using bamboo to create art pieces and different items. The programme was held at the Cultural Development Foundation.
Skill developing programmes like this help people improve their work skills and increase their knowledge regarding the same. With the proper education, they can utilise their skills in meaningful economic activities for the development of the nation as well as for themselves.
While leaving the training programme, the Deputy PM expressed that he wished to look forward to seeing the finished products that were made by the participants.
Hillaire extended his gratitude and thanked the Taiwanese Embassy for arranging such impressive programmes. He greatly appreciated the initiative the Embassy took to develop the creative economy.

Deputy PM visited the development foundation before attending the sitting of Parliament. Later, in the sitting of Parliament Hillaire responded to the Leader of the Opposition in the debate on a motion to exempt VAT payments.
VAT stands for Value Added Tax, that was put on imports contained in barrels and for toys, food supplies and care packages. The Members of Parliament brought all these items in for children who were vulnerable and needy.
