St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew attended the CARICOM Summit on Sunday, Feb 25, 2024 that was held in Georgetown, Guyana. He was accompanied by his wife Lady Diani Prince Drew at the 46th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community.
Recently, PM Drew shared photographs of the interaction that he had with the leaders at the breakfast meeting on Monday, Feb 26, 2024.
Earlier, he also shared the highlights of the CARICOM meeting through the photographs and appreciated the drummers, “I am very proud of our drummers who exceptionally represented our Federation,” said PM Drew.
Reportedly, the Drummers from St Kitts and Nevis were led by the renowned drum player Royd Phipps who provided entertainment at the auspicious ceremony.
The 46th CARICOM Summit was held in Guyana under the Chairmanship of the President Dr Mohammed Irfaan Ali. The conference began with the addressal of enlightening about the issues related to the Caribbean region which included territorial threats, crime and violence.
It also highlighted the issues related to climate change, climate financing, regional food and nutrition security, free movement of community nationals, regional security and the situations that occurred in Haiti.
At the 46th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the CARICOM, Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew and other officials were greeted by Guyana’s Minister of Local Government and Regional Development – Anand Persaud and other official delegates with a Guard of Honour Ceremony.
St Kitts and Nevis delegations also exchanged dialogues with the officials from the partnership for Atlantic Cooperation.
The partnership for Atlantic Cooperation helps to promote cooperation and interaction exclusively on science and technology. It also promoted sustainable economic development among Atlantic States in a spirit of inclusivity, trust, mutual understanding and respect.
The discussions during the business sessions included the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) and an update on the implementation of the free movement of all Community Nationals by March 31, 2024, which was made mandatory at the 45th Regular Meeting in July, last year in 2023.
