The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, has taken part in the 45th Regular Meeting of the Conference of the Heads of the Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). The meeting have taken place in the Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago from July 3-5, 2023.
It is to be noted that, the agenda for the 45th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of the Government of the CARICOM have covered all the key issues which includes, the CARICOM Single Market and Economy, Climate Change, including Climate Finance, Agriculture and Food Security, Security, Trade Negotiations, Education as well as Health.
Considerably, the St Kitts and Nevis delegation during the meeting was represented by PM Dr Terrance Drew, Permanent Secretary to Prime Minister’s Office, Glenroy Blanchette, Larry Vaughan, Saint Kitts and Nevis’ Plenipotentiary Representation to CARICOM; Bjorn Hazel, Foreign Service Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Kervin “Infamus” Benjamin, Musical Ambassador to Ministry of Sports and Creative Economy.
Notably, CARICOM was established on July 4, 1973 for broadening regional integration and the Region will be observing completion of 50 years this year since the signing of the Treaty of Chaguaramas and the accomplishments of the CARICOM, which is revered as the oldest surviving integration movement in the developing world.
The slogan during the completion of 50 years of CARICOM has been, “50 Years Strong: A Solid Foundation to Build on.”
Moreover, CARICOM Day has been observed as the public holiday on July 4, 2023. Other activities included a Kids’ 1k Road Race, a 5k and a 10k Road Race, Flag Raising Ceremony, along with a CARICOM 50th Anniversary Concert.
