Two Latino Women have come up with a platform named Bright Black Fashion to bring out new talents in the fashion industry. The platform will provide a space for people who want to showcase their talents and skills on a series of online challenges.
After qualifying all the levels of the contest, the candidate will become able to participate in the final round to become a finalist of Bright Black Fashion.
The grand finale of Bright Black Fashion will be hosted in Dubai in June 2022, where each category will require one winner. The categories are Fashion designers, makeup artists, models and fashion photographers.
The name of the two Latino women is Andrea Laguna from Colombia and Alicia Becerra from Argentina. Both have been living in Dubai for the past eight years and have collaborated with each other to work to build a bridge between complementary markets and expand a search for opportunities and support emerging talent from around the world.
Andrea Laguna is a Colombian singer who arrived in Dubai eight years ago and started working on emerging new talents in different venues with musicians from all over the world. She further started thinking about how to support people searching for new beginnings or searching to get new experiences entering a competitive international marketplace where constant improvement is the only way to succeed.
While emphasising her motive, Andrea noted, “We want to give opportunities to talented people who haven’t got the chance to show everything they can do in their industry.”
In addition to that, Alicia Becerra from San Luis, Argentina, is a businesswoman who has been working for a fashion designer in Dubai for the past four years. She also highlighted the several aspects of Bright Black Fashion and also encouraged the people to participate in it.
She stated, “Bright Black Fashion is an amazing start to the participant’s careers. There is so much talent and diversity all over the world, and many people work hard but didn’t get to the right place at the right time; all we want is to offer them that special opportunity.”
Moreover, Andrew also outlined the criteria for participating in the Fashion show. Participants can register through the website www.brightblackfashion.com or through the link on our Instagram @brightblackfashion. After that, candidates have to select the category in which they to join in.
“Further, they will receive all the requirements via email for the category they selected and start the challenges for the selection team to begin the process”, Andrea explained.
In order to support and bring attention to the Bright Black Fashion Platform, the authorities will also conduct the tour in Latin American countries such as Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Mexico and others. The tour will help them to create awareness among the local and international designers, and its first season will be held in San Luis, Argentina, on the 7th of May 2022 in the convention centre La Punta.
Michael Cinco, one of the biggest names in the fashion industry, a Filipino couture designer based in Dubai for more than twenty years and that has dressed celebrities like Beyonce, Jennifer López, Sofía Vergara, Lady Gaga and Rihanna, will be the headline designer of the show in San Luis alongside designers from the middle east like Salma Khan and brands like The Victor Closet as well as emerging designers from Latin America.
“We have to get the word out that there is a new opportunity for those who are serious in getting an opportunity to shine and show their work”, Alicia commented on the tour.
Outlining the several challenges, Andrea said, “The biggest challenges came with the situation of the world in the last couple of years being so closed because of the pandemic and the uncertainty that brought… but it is now transforming into a strength when people are eager to reactive their lives and Bright Black Fashion comes in the perfect time to offer exactly that, a new beginning.”
She further stressed that it is important to put all the focus on the talent and the participants and by presenting Bright Black Fashion in the international arena, having contestants from all over the world and in different categories creates synergies in the industry that go beyond the contest itself.
Andrew also highlighted the criteria through which companies and sponsors could support the platform. She pointed out, “Given the media collaborators we have right now (in Latin America and internationally), we can offer our sponsors and engaged growing audience, and it is the way we will continue to support more and more talents around the world for this first season and the ones to come. They can write us the email brightblackfashion@gmail.com”.
She said that the world had changed so much in the last decade with the rise of social media as part of our daily lives and more so in the last couple of years, where people look for inspiration and want to see more relatable and approachable fashion, and diversity is a big thing, which gives opportunity to a wider range of talents.
Andrew encouraged new talents to participate in the Fashion show and said that they are coming up with a second platform that will be for talents in the music and entertainment industry. They will announce it after the grand finale of Bright Black Fashion in Dubai in June 2022.
