“The Commonwealth of Dominica and its people are having the means to grow the agricultural sector into a thriving economic driver,” were the words shared by the Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit during the Market Day with a Difference held in Roseau.
The Prime Minister of Commonwealth of Dominica, has not just participated during the above mentioned event, but also addressed, adding that, “The Government of Dominica has redefined our policy towards the agriculture and food production as the part of the national reset which is required to push our nation to a great levels of production.”
Noting to the address made by the Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, “Right now, agriculture in Dominica contributes around EC$230 million towards the economy. On the basis of the figures from the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, though I believe that, that figure is way higher than reported by these institutions. The plan of the government is to keep growing the sector to a level where it contributes over $700 million to GDP by 2030.”
Alongside this, PM Skerrit, in the address, mentioned that, “We are told that this is an ambitious target, but I believe that not only is it attainable, it absolutely necessary. Dominica and the people of Dominica have the means to grow the agricultural sector into a thriving economic drive.”
At the same time, PM Skerrit, while address to the recent investments made by the government, adding that, “We are witnessing spike in the numbers of productions in the number of root crops, plantains, vegetables, livestock as well as the non-traditional crops.”
It is to be added that, the Market Day with a Difference organized by the Dominica Export Import Agency (DEXIA) annually is observed mainly for the purpose of highlighting the hard work done by the farmers as well as vendors along with their contribution towards the overall national development effort.
