The Government of Dominica on Monday has appointed the Cricketers of the West Indies, Alick Athanaze and Kavem Hodge as the Sports Ambassador for the Commonwealth of Dominica. The announcement about their appointment came in their honour of their recent performance in the One Day International (ODI) cricket series against the United Arab Emirates earlier this month.
It is to be noted that, the information about the appointment are in the honour of their recent performance as a part of the Senior Men’s West Indies Cricket Team.
The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, took it to his official social media handle to share the glimpses of the meeting, adding that, “West Indies Cricketers Alick Athanaze and Kavem Hodge will be appointed Sports Ambassadors for the Commonwealth of Dominica.”
He held meeting with both the cricketers to congratulate them on their recent success in their cricketing careers. Noting to which, he added that, “I met with the two cricketers earlier today to congratulate them on the recent successes in their cricketing careers and assure them of the Government’s support.”
In the social media post, PM Skerrit added that, “The two were part of the Senior Men’s West Indies Cricket Team for the recently concluded One Day International series against the United Arab Emirates.”
It is to be considered that, Alick Athanaze has made a stunning debut for the West Indies, by securing a record-equaling fifty in the 3rd ODI against the hosts on June 9.
Notably, Alick Athanaze, the Windward Islands Volcanoes four-day Captain, made his first-class debut for the Windward Islands in 2018 and was the leading run scorer in the 2022-23 Regional Four-Day Competition. He was also the leading run-scorer of the 2018 U-19 Cricket World Cup.
Considerably, Hodge has made his first-class debut for the Windward Islands in 2012, and was the leading run-scorer in the 2019-2020 Regional Super 50 tournament for the Windwards. He has made his ODI debut during the first ODI match against the United Arab Emirates on June 4, 2023.
PM Skerrit has extended congratulations to both the sportsmen and wished them with the continuous success during their sports carriers.
