Around 18 beneficiaries has received the keys to their new homes in the Kalinago Territory on Thursday, October 12, 2023. It is to be noted that, the information about the above mentioned has been shared by the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit.
Notably, PM Skerrit, while handing over the keys of the newly built homes to the beneficiaries congratulated them and wished them well. Along with this, he also expressed thanks to the European Union for the assistance that they have extended to Dominica during this time period.
It is to be specifically mentioned that, Prime Minister Skerrit, took it to his official social media handle to share the photos and the details of the newly built homes distribution ceremony. Noting to the post shared by PM Skerrit via his official social media handle, PM Dr Skerrit said that, “I congratulate the beneficiaries and wish them well. We are grateful to the European Union for the assistance provided to Dominica to build back better post-Hurricane Maria.”
Along with this, he has also shared further details to the above mentioned ceremony. Considering which, he said that, “Fifty homes in total will be constructed in the Kalinago Territory under the 11th European Development Fund (EDF) B-Envelope State and Resilience Contract for Rehabilitation following Hurricane Maria, with additional funding from the Government of Dominica.”
Meanwhile, the Deputy Secretary General of the European Action Service, Helena Konig, extended admiration for the resilience that has been shown by the Commonwealth of Dominica in the face of the impacts caused because of the climate change.
She also highlighted that the differences int eh capacity for the preparedness and recovery, highlighting the significance of empowering infrastructure to cope with the future events.
It is to be specifically mentioned that, the new housing units are located at Touna Concord, Mahaut River, Gaulette River, and St. Cyr.
