In an attempt to boost the tourism industry of the island state, the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica has made recent introductions. The recent introductions is on the drive to rapidly develop the tourism industry and is cognizant of the significant contribution of the tourism sector towards the economic growth of the Dominica.
The information about the following has been shared by the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica via their official social media handle. It is to be specifically mentioned that, in the recent few years, the Commonwealth of Dominica has received number of international accolades and recognition which shows that the investment in the tourism sector of the island state is starting bear the fruit.
Notably, in the social media post, the Government of Dominica, has also mentioned about the inaugural of American Airlines direct flight from mainland USA to Douglas Charles Airport. Noting to which, the Government of Dominica, mentioned that, “In December 2021, American Airlines began direct flights from mainland USA to Douglas Charles Airport.”
Through the social media post, they have also mentioned that, “Close collaboration with American Airlines has enabled the identification of improvement opportunities to the Douglas Charles Airport which is currently being implemented.”
It is to be specifically mentioned that the extension of the runway at the Douglas Charles Airport is also a significant project that is currently going on and the government of Dominica has also mentioned about extending the airport’s runway by 185m. Noting to which, the Government of Dominica, mentioned that, “The extension of the runway at the Douglas Charles Airport is an important project currently underway. The airport runway is being extended by 185m and includes upgraded apron parking and grooving to improve safety on wet days.”
Along with this, the Minister for Tourism for Dominica, Denise Charles has also led a site visit to the Runway Extension Project to see first hand ongoing work as well as to receive and update from the contractors. Minister Charles is also pleased with the progress thus far and is also looking ahead to the completion of the entire project by the month of October.
