Basseterre, St. Kitts: The deaf community in the Federation was able to properly follow the St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew’s Press Conference with the Cabinet Ministers on Thursday, March 30, 2023, as it featured for the 1st time a hand signing professional in the live broadcast.
The decision of introduction this disability-friendly feature is in keeping with the commitment of government of enhancing services for the differently-abled so that they can be kept abreast of what is going on in the nation with the respect to the government and ongoing affairs.
It is to be mentioned that during the press conference, Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew added that the new feature was in keeping with a promise that he made on March 16, after a meeting with several members of the differently-abled community.
Dr Drew added that, “In my recent meeting with him, they have shown that they feel left out, and rightfully so, that the government is informing the people and they are not given the chance to be duly informed. And so, I want to say that this is, of course, a pleasant and progressive measure in making sure that all of our people, irrespective of their varying abilities, that they too can share with us, their government, in the advancement of our nation.”
It is expected that next week’s Sitting of the Federal Parliament will also be hand-signed.
