Saint Lucia: Deputy Prime Minister Ernest Hilaire highlighted his last week’s activities. He wrote a weekly review in which he mentioned attending three major activities. Every activity holds its own significance.
Deputy PM attended the Security in Movable Properties Registry launch event, also known as the Collateral Registry. The event was arranged on Wednesday, November 29, 2023.
The ceremony was related to the Registry, which will give people an allowance to use their movable assets as collateral. People of Saint Lucia can now register the charges against them.
People who could not use their assets, such as farming production, sewing machines, intellectual property rights, etc., can now use them. The draft was passed legally last year.
The minister mentioned, “No longer is it only people who have houses, land and cash that can qualify for credit and loans.”
The second event attended by the tourism minister was the Sod Turning for the Gros Islet Beach Park, popularly known as Simple’s Park. The Park is the brainchild of Simon Philip, also called Simple.
He attended the event on Friday, December 01. The Project was an essential part of plans to redevelop the Gros Islet Waterfront.
The Project is consistent with Government’s approach to restructuring the tourism industry to make it world-class. The Project also promotes local involvement and ownership.
The minister mentioned that it is a classic community tourism project that allows locals and outside visitors to enjoy the beauty of Saint Lucia.
Deputy PM Hilaire made his presence at the National Youth Awards Ceremony with Minister Casimir and his official staff. The minister stated that it was a continuous commitment to recognize and promote the youth of the nation.
It is also an initiative to present the youth as the change drivers of creating priority in their favour and putting themselves at the center of national development.
Regarding the Henry Charles Fellow in Youth Development, Hilaire expressed that he was grateful upon hearing the announcement.
“Dr Charles did not just advocate for youth, he lived and believed in youth. I was lucky to have him as one of my mentors in my student years when I started as an activist,” added Deputy PM.
He said that he was dedicated to his work and nation. He continues to put the people first, which is a bit difficult, but together, they are working for the country’s progress. They are relentlessly building a safe and prosperous Saint Lucia.
