The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, on Wednesday has shared an update on the CARICOM Heads of the Government during the 45th Regular Meeting for launching year of celebrations to mark its 50th Anniversary. The following update has been made by PM Drew via his official social media handle.
While elaborating on the following, PM Drew added that, “Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Heads of Government returned to Trinidad and Tobago, the venue of the historic signing of the Treaty of Chaguaramas, for the 45th Regular Meeting and to launch a year of celebrations to mark its 50th Anniversary.”
It is to be noted that, the meeting has tackled several ongoing issues affecting the region, like food security, climate change, and the climate finance agenda; the ongoing problems across Haiti; security issues; external relations and the CARICOM Single Market and Economic.
Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew, has shared the moments and the glimpses of the meeting via his official social media handle, adding that, “On Tuesday, 4 July, the 50th Anniversary commemorative ceremony featured a Flag Raising event; the planting of a Time Capsule, and addresses by the CARICOM Chairman, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Roosevelt Skerrit, and host of the Conference and Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Keith Rowley.”
He also held meeting with the several Regional Heads and the International delegates to hold discussion with the Federation’s Sustainable Island State Agenda and opportunities for collaboration and partnership.
Moreover, during the business session, representatives of foreign governments and heads of international organizations paid special tributes to CARICOM in honour of the milestone.
According to the details shared by PM Drew, “Regional cultural artistes also paid tribute in song, dance, steel band music, and other art forms during the CARICOM 50th Anniversary Concert. Kervin “Infamus” Benjamin, Musical Ambassador to the Ministry of Sports and Creative Economy represented Saint Kitts and Nevis with a cultural presentation at the Anniversary Concert.”
“I was quite pleased to see Saint Kitts and Nevis join the CARICOM Experience with a Food Fair and Cultural Entertainment displaying the national cuisine, craft, and culture of the various CARICOM countries,” says PM Drew.
