A huge quantity of chemicals and agricultural inputs that were deemed ‘scarce’ in the country were made available to farmers as well as backyard gardeners at the Agriculture Department, LaGuerite, St Kitts, as of Friday, March 3, 2023.
Notably, the offloading of chemicals from one(1) shipping container was done at the Department’s grounds on Friday morning and followed the delivery of 2 containers worth of animal feed and veterinary medicine the week earlier.
This comes just four weeks following the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Marine Resources & Cooperatives has made and finalized a commitment to swiftly solving the agricultural inputs, feed and chemical shortages that have been affecting farmers in the past recent times.
During the month of February , Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Miguel Flemming has noted that it was the stakeholders of Ministry-led consultations with the farmers that has revealed the urgency of the matter and also prompted the government’s immediate reply to make sure that animal feed, chemicals as well as farming supplies are distributed more consistently.
At the same time, it has also shared the list of some of the agricultural goods as well as products that were brought in added as follows, Carista, Diuron 80%, Select 12, along with Basagran.
It is to be noted that, the Agriculture department has also released the contact number of the Department, asking the farmers to make contact at the Department at the contact number 467-1831 or 467-1841 for further details about the product. Moreover, the offices are open Monday to Friday from 8 am to 4 pm.
