The National Housing Corporation (NHC) is set to bring revolution to the housing sector with the rolling out of the largest housing initiative of its kind in the history of St Kitts and Nevis, which is also considered as blueprint for the first-time homeowners.
The SMART Homes Initiative, which is among one of the most desiring socio-economic reforms across the Federation, is a collaborative effort between the government of St Kitts and Nevis and National Housing Corporation, that was basically introduced with an idea for benefitting citizens of the nation, via the ownership of homes as well as making contributions to their upward mobility.
It is to be further noted that the initial phase is all set to begin shortly, with the construction of 600 houses to be completed by the ending of 2023, which totals upto 2400 homes over a period of 5-year.
The process has started with the reviewing of applications as well as reconfiguration of 1-, 2- along with 3-bedroom architectural designs. Notably, the SMART Homes will be modernized as well as equipped with solar energy and water cisterns or water shortage tanks, which is never seen before in the NHC affordable houses.
The National Housing Corporation has highlighted the objective behind this new housing plan, which they added is to, “restore confidence in minds of working-class citizens who have lost the wish of owning a house. If we are to raise our standards of living, it is significant we do so from an economic standpoint.”
Whereas, one of the another significant points highlighted in this project is that it is striving to boost the economy by providing employment opportunities for its people. The process for home ownership, contractors, heavy equipment operators etc., is open to all of the citizens of St Kitts.
For further convenience of the citizens, the National Housing Corporation has released a telephone number for contact, which is (466-4701), and has released an email which is customerservice@nhc.kn.
