A technical team from Venezuela will be in Dominica to assist the Dominica Electric Services (DOMLEC) for addressing the challenges the company is facing currently. The information about the above mentioned has been shared by the Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit.
It is to be noted that the following announcement has been made by the Prime Minister Skerrit himself during the press conference. During the stay, the technical team from Venezuela will join another technical expert from Saint Lucia, who also arrived in Dominica on Sunday to provide support to Dominica Electric Services (DOMLEC).
During the press conference, PM Skerrit, added that, “I held meeting with the President of Venezuela on Saturday in Cuba and I, on behalf of DOMLEC, requested their support. They are in touch with the DOMLEC directly and it is the intention of Venezuela for sending a team of mechanical and technical engineers to Dominica on Tuesday to assist DOMLEC in looking at the challenges they are having with a view of providing whatever support we will need for addressing the immediate term and the medium term.”
He continued adding that, “We also hold discussions with the board and management of the DOMLEC the issue of procurement of new generators for DOMLEC for addressing the situation in the medium term.”
PM Skerrit has further added that he will hold meeting with the Board of DOMLEC for receiving the regular updates in order to make sure that the load-shedding situation can be addressed.
Moreover, he added that based on what DOMLEC is saying, the company has witnessed a spike in the demand, “So it’s not only because of the heat but there is a spike because people are using more and more energy.”
He explained that, “There is a real spike in demand and with the generators that are old then you will have the issues.”
Not just limited to this, PM Skerrit has also made sure that the government of Dominica would continue to provide all the necessary support to DOMLEC.
