The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, has extended greetings to the people on the occasion of 45th Independence Day. While extending the greetings, he also emphasized on the achievements made by Dominica in past 45 years.
During the address to the general public, PM Skerrit highlighted the theme for the 45th Independence Day, adding that, “Our theme, “AnnouSélébwé”, is more than a call to celebration—it is an anthem of resilience and a testament to our ability to thrive despite the most daunting challenges.”
He added that, “Our celebrations during this year resonate with the vibrant beats of our diverse and rich culture. From the glamour of pageants to the rhythm of our traditional Jing Ping music, our dances and delectable cuisine, our aim is to ensure every Dominican, young and old, feels the heartbeat of our land, of our nationhood.”
It is to be noted that, during the address, PM Skerrit also shares the goal that each and every person of Dominica should have, which is a ‘Prosperous and united Dominica.’ While highlighting this, PM Skerrit, added that the future of the nation is in the hands of the people of Dominica and every small act of unity counts.
While mentioning to the ongoing challenges, PM Skerrit encourages everyone to stand firm during this tough hour. He also highlighted how Dominica has climbed steps in order to turn more strong in terms of facing the natural or manmade calamity.
During this, he also shared about the policies designed by the government of Dominica, mainly for meeting the demands of the common people. Noting to which, he added that, “Our social policies are concerned with meeting our people’s need for security, safe housing, education, work, healthcare and wellbeing. Our social protection programs continue unabated, ranging from the national employment programme, non-contributory pension for seniors and the Yes We Care, which provides our elderly with regular upkeep and attention.”
Along with this, he also mentioned about the major infrastructural developments which are yet to take place in Dominica. Considering which, he added about the international airport which will transform the economic fortune of the nation, along with major hotels as well as geothermal energy plant and the construction of Cable Car.
