“The government needs to put more focus on informing the people of the services offered at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital.” The following announcement has been made by Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, during the press conference.
While replying to the queries as to why certain individuals continue to look for medical care abroad, the Prime Minister added that part of the problem is that most of people are not aware of the available health services at the hospital. He continued by saying that the actual plan for the hospital has not yet been completely implemented.
Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit continued by saying, “There is policy in place in the government that people who are 18 as well as younger, 16 & over, would be provided with free medical assistance as long as any prime minister of the nation not going to change.”
He added that this is a fundamental principal position & in conformity with international needs that they required to ensure that every citizen has access to Medical Care irrespective of their economic situation.
PM Skerrit expressed concern that as a result of the failure to implement his policies for the administration of the hospital, some patients who are able to pay fail to do so.
He said “We have tried to insert as part of that policy decision that those who have insurance & will fall into those categories will be required or their insurance will be required to pay. However, that was never executed as sometimes, when I propose steps in this nation that benefit the people, there are people who are in the system who are opposed to it, and they do not go about implementing it the way that I have articulated it in policy and I take a blame for it that’s fine I’m a leader of the nation but not as I don’t speak to those things and I think I need to start speaking about those things.”
