St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew visited to CDA Technical Institute of the West Indies to view the hyperbaric chambers on March 15, 2024. The Minister of Health was accompanied by the Advisor in the Prime Minister’s Office – Austin Edinborough.
Reportedly, the tour was conducted by Owner and Director of the Hyperbaric Chamber, Captain Ray Black and CEO McClean Hobson.
During the visit, the prime minister Dr Terrance Drew took the opportunity to explore the transformative capabilities of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. It is a pioneering therapy that involved breathing 100% pure oxygen within a pressurized hyperbaric chamber, offering a revolutionary approach to medical treatment.
As per the sources, the CDA Technical Institute endeavors to revolutionize healthcare facilities in St Kitts and Nevis by boasting the world’s largest collection of hyperbaric chambers.
Discussion sessions were held considering the potential of the institute having a close collaboration with the government that aims to leverage these chambers to address critical health issues. The discussions also included diabetic complications such as poor circulation and ulcerated feet.
Following this the chamber will also treat conditions like carbon monoxide poisoning, decompression sickness, gas gangrene and radiation injury.
As per the increasing global demand to escalate commercial diving, the objective of the CDA Institute in 2014 was to bridge the burgeoning industry’s skill gap.
The headquarter of the CDA Technical Institute is in the United States of America. The institute is a premier offshore commercial diving facility that attract trainees from across the world and seek employment opportunities in diverse sectors such as oil rigs, maritime industries and commercial diving.
Moreover, the technical institute has an inaugural intake of fifty Nigerian trainees in 2016 who took a rigorous training and included underwater welding and cutting for more than six-month period.
The trainees got graduated with distinctions and after that returned to Nigeria where now they contribute significantly to the oilfields of the nation.
Despite all the challenges that also included the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the institute is poised to welcome a larger group of 200 Nigerian trainees in 2024.
The expansion emphasises upon the commitment by the institute to foster talent and meet the demands of the industry in the realm of commercial diving.
