The Cricket team of West Indies have called up the uncapped left-handed Alick Athanaze for their upcoming Test tour of South Africa.
Following this, the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, has extended congratulations to Dominica’s Alick Athanaze, who is named to the West Indies Senior Men’s Team.
PM Dr Skerrit took it to his official social media handle to share the update among the general public, adding that, “Congratulations to Dominica’s Alick Athanaze, who is named to the Senior Men’s West Indies Team!”
At the same time, PM Skerrit added that, “This is a momentous achievement for Athanaze, the Windward Islands Volcanoes Captain, hailing from the community of Grand Bay.”
“Notably, the Government as well as People of Dominica are immensely proud & stand in complete support of Athanaze as he has joined the regional side for the South Africa tour, which bowls off on February 28, “added PM Skerrit.
Meanwhile, he noted that, “Just off his 1st century in regional First Class cricket this month, Athanaze’s selection is yet another gratifying moment for local cricket fans who have tracked his rise over the years.
We celebrate with him. Very best wishes for his continued success!”
It is further noted that, Athanaze, ageing around 24-year-old, was the leading run-scorer at the U-19 World Cup in the year 2018, just ahead of Shubman Gill, and played for West Indies A against Bangladesh last year. He has captained Windward Island Volcanoes in the 4-day regional championship this season, scoring his maiden first-class 100 around 6 days ago.
