Saint Lucia: The Government of Saint Lucia congratulated President of the Senate – Alvina Reynolds on being recognised as the ‘Distinguished Alumni’. The University of East London (UEL) honoured her as a part of their 125th anniversary celebrations.
As per the sources, the celebration included an exhibition that featured alumni and displayed a total of one hundred and twenty-five (125) posters of their former students who have distinguished themselves after completing their studies at the University.
Alvina Bertram Reynolds is the former Minister of Health, Wellness, Human Services and Gender Relations and served from the year 2011 to 2016. She also served as the Member of Parliament for Babonneau for the same period.
Notably, Bertram Reynolds was appointed as President of the Senate on 24th November 2022. Before this, she was appointed as a Senator on 13th August 2021. Reynolds was the fifth female to become President of the Senate in Saint Lucia.
President Reynolds is a qualified teacher who studied in Saint Lucia and London. She also served as a School Guidance Counsellor for almost five years.
Minister Alvina Bertram Reynolds worked with various agencies such as:
- Project Officer for Health and Family Life Education attached to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
- Health and Family Life Education Consultant in the Ministry of Education under the World Bank HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control Project in Saint Lucia.
While praising President Alvina Reynolds, the University described her as one of their highly successful alumni in her career, since she left the University of East London.
Reportedly, the ongoing exhibition, which began on 9th November 2023 at the Docklands Campus and Art Venue in Stratford, London, will conclude on 5th January 2024.
The exhibition consists of 125 profiles of UEL graduates, in both words and images, that form a fascinating and inspiring look at alumni who have worked in a wide variety of fields and made their mark on the world.
The exhibition is being displayed on four sites with different themes:
- At East building Atrium in Docklands
Theme: Academia and Altruism - At Docklands Library
Theme: Business and Commerce - At Dockland Lounge
Theme: Sport & Activity and Professionals & Politics - At Arts Venue in Stratford
Theme: Arts and Culture, including novelists, fashion designers, artists, poets, filmmakers and other artists.
