Saint Lucia: Prime Minister Philip J Pierre has congratulated Julien Alfred upon winning the gold medal at 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championship that held in Glasgow, United Kingdom last month.
Prime Minister Pierre is happy to celebrate the achievement of the athlete and wrote a congratulatory note for her, “Congratulations Julien Alfred on your gold medal at the World Athletics Indoor Championships.”
He added that Alfred has given the country an opportunity to celebrate with her and to be grateful. He advised her to remain focused and continue to inspire other people with her achievements. As they cheer her on.
Deputy prime minister Ernest Hilaire has also appreciated the sprinter on her win and shared a video in which she looks glad as she saw people from her nation are happy with her achievement.
Minister Hilaire shared the video and wrote World Champion Julian Alfred is excited to be home and also to be an influence to so many.
Deputy PM also shared a photograph with the athlete and praised the athlete by saying that they are extremely proud of her and her achievement upon which Julian Alfred marked her statement, “I represent the entire community of Ciceron, Castries South.”
Ministry of Youth Development and Sports has also shared the winning video of her track and field race. Julien Alfred came back home for the launch of her foundation on April 05, 2024.
Reportedly, Julien Alfred took the first spot by crossing Ewa Swoboda in the heats and semifinals. She has created a history by winning the 60m race in just 6.98 and also it is the first medal for Saint Lucia.
As per the sources, Ewa Swoboda grabbed the silver and Zaynab Dosso has won the bronze. Alfred will also represent Saint Lucia at the Paris Olympics.
The 2022 Commonwealth silver winner Julian Alfred had expressed her happiness and said that she thinks that losing the last season at the World Championships and coming that much close to a medal in both the 100m and the 200m had boosted her.
She said that she was very eager to come for this season. She mentioned about her coach and said, “My coach came all the way from Austin to be with me here so I wanted to make him proud. I’m just going to keep hungry, train hard and keep chasing what I want. I’ll trust in my coach and me.”
