Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis: The President of South Africa, Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, on Tuesday has officially acknowledged the Letter of Commission presented by the New High Commissioner of St Kitts and Nevis to South Africa, Verna Mills.
High Commissioner Mills, along with her spouse, Jeneve Mills, has extended the greetings of the Prime Minister of St Kitts & Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, as well as the people for the personal health and wellbeing of the President Ramaphosa along with the prosperity of the South African people.
Notably, as the first Non-resident High Commissioner of St Kitts & Nevis to the South Africa, High Commissioner Mills promises to take the relations between the island nation of St Kitts and Nevis and South Africa to the global heights.
It is to be noted that Verna Mills started her career in the Foreign Ministry as a Foreign Service Officer in charge of the Latin America. She did her graduation from the Diplomatic School of Madrid with an Inter-University Master’s Degree in Diplomacy & International Relations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has given Ambassador Mills with the responsibility of leading the initiative that has led to the opening of the St Kitts and Nevis Embassy in Havana, Cuba, in March 2014 and a year later was appointed as a Counselor/Charge d affaires to Cuba.
Moreover, Mills was appointed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of St Kitts and Nevis to Cuba in 2017, making her the first female Ambassador to be appointed to Cuba and the youngest serving Ambassador of St Kitts & Nevis.
At the same time, she aspires to craft new opportunities for engagement on trade & investment, technical and economic cooperation, tourism, agriculture and other fields of mutual interest.
